DHI Education and Credentialing Program: assessing your knowledge under the new DHI Education and Credentialing Program.Through the past 50 years, DHI has become recognized as the source for educating professionals in the architectural openings industry. To maintain this recognition, we are offering a new program that offers flexibility and convenience. Not only will this program allow candidates to customize their education to best suit their individual needs, it will also take the architectural openings industry into the future by keeping up with current technologies, standards and student abilities, while offering the flexibility to encompass potential industry needs and trends. In assessing the education courses offered previously, we identified thirty-five separate training classes covering a body of knowledge, both technical and non-technical. Candidates will progress from one level to the next as each final course exam is successfully completed. This exercise will create an increased level of accountability, thereby raising the significance of participation in the DHI Education and Credentialing Program. Once these core classes have been completed, the candidate may then pursue the AHC, CDC or EHC disciplines. DHI Education Assessment Tool DHI now offers an assessment exam that enables candidates to determine exactly where they need to begin their industry training. The exam will also provide students with instant credit for the knowledge they have acquired through practical application (i.e., on-the-job training, personal experiences or other industry-oriented training courses). This assessment tool will be delivered free of charge from June 2004 through December 31, 2004, and candidates can register for the assessment exams or each level of the in-class training via the new DHI education Web site. The site is easily accessible from any computer, at your convenience. The assessment tool is comprised of multiple-choice questions, which are segmented into categories for each of the new core classes. Individuals who are new to the industry may only need to complete the first couple of segments. Current DHI students may need to complete all segments of the assessment tool in order to determine which courses they will need to complete in the new program. Conversely, AHCs and CDCs pursuing additional credentials will automatically receive credit for the courses covered by their certifications. Why should I take the assessment exams? The assessment exam is designed to: * Assess your level of knowledge and experience in the door and hardware industry. * Expose you to the types of questions you will see on the actual class exams. * Determine if you have the right experience and knowledge to test out of (get credit for) any of the DHI Education and Credentialing classes. Answers to FAQs * You may take the assessment exam at any time, any place, using a computer that can connect to the Internet. * Each exam will consist of 25-50 multiple-choice questions. * There is a specified time allotment for each exam. At the end of the exam you will be asked to confirm that you have completed the exam. This will allow us to determine if your session has ended due to a faulty internet connection. * You will receive your pass or fail score at the end of the exam. Answers to the exam questions are not provided. * For exams that are passed, the student will receive credit for those classes and will not need to take them. For any exams that are failed, the student will need to attend the class and pass the end-of-class exam. * Candidates may register for any combination of the assessment exams. The exams can be taken all at once, one at a time, or several during one session. You do not have to take the exams in the order listed on the Web site. * Before taking any of the assessment exams, be sure to allocate enough time for completion. Ready? When you are ready to take the assessment exam, visit www.dhi.org. You will need to log in through the link provided on the Education portion of the DHI Web site. Your User ID is your DHI Member ID. Your password is set to your last name (without any spaces or punctuation). You will have the option of changing this password. Exams that you have already taken will be grayed out. Choose your test and best of luck!
