DGA NAMES BEST DIRECTOR CHOICES.Byline: Glenn Whipp Daily News Film Writer ``Titanic'' director James Cameron heads the list of filmmakers announced Monday who are nominated for the Directors Guild of America's best feature film award. Joining Cameron on the list are James L. Brooks for ``As Good as It Gets,'' Curtis Hanson for ``L.A. Confidential,'' Steven Spielberg for ``Amistad'' and Gus Van Sant SANT South African Native Trust for ``Good Will Hunting.'' ``The five nominees are truly representative of the best in motion picture directing,'' said DGA DGA Directors Guild of America (movie directors union) DGA Délégation Générale pour l'Armement (France) DGA Directeur-Grootaandeelhouder (Dutch: Managing Director and Major Shareholder) president Jack Shea. ``Each may have a different style and work with different subjects, but all of them share the exceptional ability to create.'' Spielberg's nomination was his eighth, tieing him with Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder and Fred Zinnemann for most DGA nominations in the feature film category.
