Portland Metro Area's ClearAccess Receives Seed Capital Through OIF investment in DFJ Frontier

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Oregon Investment Fund (OIF) today announced an investment commitment to DFJ Frontier, an early/seed stage investor. DFJ Frontier is an affiliate of Draper Fisher Jurvetson ("DFJ"), a Silicon Valley venture fund known for visionary early stage investing.

"We selected DFJ Frontier specifically for their expertise as an early stage investor. They possess the unique ability to work with very young companies, as well as universities, to commercialize academically developed technologies. This investment adds another diversifying element to the portfolio and provides the OIF with the opportunity to participate in some of the youngest and most exciting companies that Oregon and the Pacific Northwest have to offer," said David Almodovar, a Vice President with Credit Suisse, who manages the program in Oregon.

The OIF portfolio comprises funds ranging from buyouts that invest in more mature and established businesses to early/seed stage funds that invest in young, fast growing companies. "DFJ Frontier has a lineage of quality management and a history of working with academic institutions to develop venture capital and entrepreneurship programs, in addition to their commercialization efforts. Their investment philosophy and focus fits well with the OIF's overall investment strategy and commitment to Oregon pensioners," Almodovar said.

As a result of this funding, DFJ Frontier has made an investment in Portland metro area-based ClearAccess, a company that is providing the remote management technology to lower support costs for broadband access. ClearAccess is the eighth Oregon and Pacific Northwest company to receive investment dollars from OIF's stable of funds.

The new investment in DFJ nearly completes Credit Suisse's three-year investment horizon with combined commitments totaling USD 86 million to venture capital and private equity funds, as well as one co-investment.

The OIF is a fund of funds that is managed by Credit Suisse's Customized Fund Investment Group for the Oregon Public Employees Retirement Fund and is overseen by the Oregon Investment Council. Venture capital funds receiving capital commitments from OIF are required to invest primarily in Oregon or Pacific Northwest-based companies.
