DEVELOPMENTAL CENTER EXPANDING : BABY STEPS HAS NEW SITE.

Byline: Bhavna Mistry Daily News Staff Writer

Their steps may be small, but 2-year-old twins Jared and Amanda Alden left a big mark Saturday which others will enjoy for generations to come.

The two were among a dozen kids who left footprints in wet cement at the new Baby Steps and A.V. Therapies building along Lancaster Boulevard. The building is due to be completed Thursday.

``They just loved it,'' said Kathy Alden, 37, of Palmdale, the twins' mother. ``They kept looking at their feet.''

``I'm so happy that we were able to do this,'' she said. ``This is something that will always be.''

Elaine Schneider, founder and executive director of Baby Steps, invited the infants and toddlers in the program to participate in Saturday's event.

``It's a wonderful opportunity for them to come out and be a part of our new building and celebration,'' she said.

Baby Steps is Antelope antelope, name applied to a large number of hoofed, ruminant mammals of the cattle family (Bovidae), which also includes the sheep and goats. The North American pronghorn is sometimes called an antelope, but belongs to a separate, related family (Antilocapridae).  Valley's first government-funded, early prevention program for infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities developmental disabilities (DD),

The program focuses on helping infants born with special needs - due to prematurity, low birth weight, cerebral palsy cerebral palsy (sərē`brəl pôl`zē), disability caused by brain damage before or during birth or in the first years, resulting in a loss of voluntary muscular control and coordination.  or other causes - to reach their full potential.

The new 5,000-square-foot building at 540 W. Lancaster Blvd. will replace the 3,200-square-foot building at 1051 W. Ave. M. It will be equipped with an outdoor playground area, a conference room, two therapy rooms complete with one-way mirrors one-way mirror

The $1 million building is part of the city of Lancaster's Redevelopment Agency's project designed to revitalize re·vi·tal·ize

Since Amanda and Jared were 2 months old, Alden has brought the twins to Baby Steps two times a week, where teachers and therapists work with them on fine motor skills The examples and perspective in this article or section may not represent a worldwide view of the subject.

``They'll learn how to put things into shaped containers and then take them out,'' Alden said. ``They'll learn how to turn things on and off and how to ride a rocking horse.''

The twins were born premature by 10 weeks, Alden said.
