The road is part of the city's $245 million, 8.5-mile Cross Valley Connector project, which intends to link state Route 126 and Interstate 5 with the Antelope Valley Freeway. Last week, city leaders punched through a gap that cleared travel between state Route 14 and Soledad Canyon Road. Some $170 million has been committed to the project, and the city is angling for $8 million from the 2006 federal appropriations bill and another $24 million from the federal highway bill working through Congress.
