STUDIO CITY - The developer of the controversial plan to build senior housing at the Studio City Golf and Tennis Club site has reduced the size of the proposed project in an attempt to assuage as·suage

Homeplace Retirement Communities of America has eliminated a planned skilled-nursing and assisted-living facility on the 17-acre property, reducing the project's footprint The amount of geographic space covered by an object.  from 5 to 3.5 acres. There still are plans to build 240 condominiums for senior citizens.

The company has previously offered to donate the rest of the property to the city or otherwise preserve it as a golf course or open space. However, city officials and community groups oppose any development on the property, other than one acre eyed for a fire station.

Still, Homeplace CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Stephen Taylor acknowledged he may never be able to sway opponents to support the project.

``I'm not sure we'll ever convince the people who live right around there to like it,'' Taylor said. ``We've been doing this for three, four years now. We did everything we can to try to talk to people. But the cold, hard fact is, spurred on by the politicians, people think they own that property. They think they own it, but it's private property.''

Tony Lucente, president of the Studio City Residents Association, said the community remains opposed and the change is a sign of desperation.

``They keep throwing stuff against the wall hoping it will stick,'' Lucente said. ``This is their latest version. There's no indication that this revised proposal has caused any change in the community's view toward this.''

to buy the property for $12 million, but estimates it could be worth up to $75 million.

The city is looking to take the property by eminent domain eminent domain, the right of a government to force the owner of private property sell it if it is needed for a public use. The right is based on the doctrine that a sovereign state has dominion over all lands and buildings within its borders, which has its origins in  so it can preserve it in its current state. The 50-year lease on the golf facility runs out in about two years.

``If they come in and try to grab it for some low number, we're off to court, because we're not going to let them steal it,'' Taylor said. ``We've got very good counsel that thinks the city's exposure is $50 (million) to $75 million.''

The Studio City Residents Association is planning to host an open house and rally June 21 to save the property. It will be held at the club, 4141 Whisett Ave AVE Avenue
