DETROIT EDISON SALES INCREASE 4.3 PERCENT

DETROIT, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Driven by strong demand from the automotive industry and its suppliers, October electricity sales to Detroit Edison (NYSE: DTE) customers increased 4.3 percent compared with the same period a year ago.
System sales of 3.5 billion kilowatthours (kWh) were recorded last month in southeastern Michigan, up from 3.3 billion kWh in October 1992.
Residential sales dropped 3.4 percent to 844 million kWh because of mild October weather. October sales to commercial customers rose 4.1 percent to 768 million kWh.
Industrial sales increased 6.1 percent to 1.65 billion kWh. Although sales to steel customers were down 1.2 percent, the loss was offset by higher automotive production and a 15-percent increase in sales to other manufacturers, which includes automotive industry suppliers.
Total sales for the month -- including sales to other utilities -- increased 12.6 percent to 3.96 billion kWh compared with 3.52 billion kWh for the same month last year.
Year-to-date through October, the utility's sales in southeastern Michigan were up 6.1 percent from the first 10 months of 1992 -- 35.8 billion kWh in 1993 compared with 33.8 billion kWh last year.
Total sales for the period were 39 billion kWh, up 6.4 percent from 36.6 billion kWh during the first 10 months of 1992.
