DETROIT BOAT SHOW ANNOUNCES FIRST WEEKEND SALES AND ATTENDANCE INCREASES
DETROIT, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- First weekend boat sales took off to an amazing start, according to most of the dealers at the 1992 Detroit Boat & Fishing Show. A first weekend poll indicated that dealers were selling twice as many and up to five times as many boats as last year's first weekend. Finance companies are also amazed at the amount of loan applications coming in for the first weekend -- which may mean even higher sales come mid-week.
"People are buying boats because of the great deals and the low interest rates," said Van Snider, of the Michigan Boating Industries Association. "They know they're not going to be this low again next year."
First weekend attendance was also up by 20.8 percent over last year's first weekend. Saturday's attendance came in at 23,003 (up 5.8 percent) and Sunday's at 22,127 (up 41.5 percent), or a grand total of 45,130.
The show has brought together more than 300 boating businesses featuring hundreds of boats of all types and sizes, and offering every imaginable marine-related product on the market.
The 1992 Detroit Boat & Fishing Show runs through Feb. 9 at Cobo Center.
