Red Wings (25-11-5) update: Detroit opened a five-game trip Thursday with a 9-4pounding at the hands of San Jose, ending a four-game winning streak. Making the defeat all the more stunning, the Red Wings had taken a 3-0 lead before allowing the Sharks to score nine unanswered goals. Detroit had gone 6-0-1 in their previous seven games. San Jose scored sixpower-play goals, including five in the third period -- both Detroit records for man-advantage goals allowed. ... Veteran Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios is out indefinitely while he deals with the stabbing deaths of twoemployees in his Detroit sports bar.

Ducks (28-9-6) update: The Ducks are coming off a collapse of their own, losing 4-3 Friday to Columbus by blowing a three-goal lead in the final 10:02. The defeat was the fourth in a row for Anaheim and its fifth in its past six games. It was only the third regulation loss at home for the Ducks this season. ... Teemu Selanne was honored Friday for his 500 career goals and 1,000 games played. He scored his team-leading 24th goal of the season to give the Ducks a 3-0 lead, but later missed a penalty shot.
