DETECTIVE WINS $1.3 MILLION IN DISCRIMINATION SUIT.

A Superior Court jury has awarded $1.3 million to an African-American detective who claimed that he was denied entry into the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Police Department's elite air support unit.

Because the provenance of works of art is seldom clear and because their origin is often judged by means of subtle factors, art
 detail, sued the department, claiming a pattern of discrimination over a 15-year period.

``I feel vindicated,'' Green said following Friday's finding by the jury that concluded a six-week civil trial. ``We're talking about 15 years, it's a long time.''

Green, 44, said that over that period, he was accepted once for a 30-day trial basis as an observer. But he left within a week, he said, because of the open hostility.

Green said Monday that he still wants to join Air Support. ``Give me a flight suit and let me go.''
