DESERT ROUNDUP: VASQUEZ SETS STATE RECORD WITH 86-0 WIN AT FRAZIER MTN.

Vasquez set a state record with 58 points in the first quarter on the way to an 86-0 High Desert League victory over host Frazier Mountain Frazier Mountain is a mountain (or peak) that is located near Frazier Park, California and Lake of the Woods, California to the north. Frazier Mountain is 8,026 feet (2446 m)  Friday night.

Wesley Anderson accounted for 58 points and scored nine touchdowns to lead Vasquez (4-5, 3-2).Anderson, a senior, rushed for 208 yards and eight touchdowns and also returned an interception 42 yards for a score.

Vasquez (4-5, 3-2), which led 58-0 after one quarter and 74-0 at the half, scored on all 10 possessions. The Mustangs scored four times within 39 seconds in the final minutes of the first quarter. The teams played with a running clock for the final 30 minutes.

Frazier Mountain (0-9, 0-5), which already was decimated by injury, finished with just 15 players after losing four more. Highland 32, Quartz Hill 7: The Bulldogs remained undefeated in Golden League play, rolling up 402 years of total offense over the visiting Rebels.

Highland (6-3, 4-0) gained 20 first downs, with the most important play coming in the second quarter. On fourth down and 7 with the score tied 7-7, Bulldogs quarterback Jeremy White (11 of 18 for 165 yards) connected with Ryan Cowgill for 14 yards to keep the drive alive. Two plays later, White hit Cowgill on an 8-yard slant for a touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 14-7 halftime lead.

Defensively, Antelope Valley held Palmdale (1-8, 1-4) to 64 yards of total offense and only four first downs in the first half until allowing the second and third-stringers to play the entire second half.
