DEPUTY D.A.S WILL FIGHT JUDGES' RE-ELECTION.

The Act of Congress of March 3, 1815, 2 Story L. U. S. 1530, authorizes and directs the district attorneys of the United States to appoint by warrant, an attorney as their substitute or deputy in all cases when necessary to sue or prosecute for the United  official announced Tuesday.

The association plans to back challengers for the judicial seats of Superior Court judges Dan T. Oki and David S. Wesley.

``This is the little guys standing up to two of the top judges in Los Angeles County who sold us out. Someone is now dead as a result and we want to hold them accountable,'' said Steve Ipsen, president of the ADDA.

``They are running for re-election and we are going to kick them out of office. They have lost sight of their primary mission of being judges.''

In a recent vote of more than 900 prosecutors who were asked to rate more than 100 judges for re-election next spring, they voted to ``strongly endorse'' 44 judges, ``endorse'' 40 judges, ``oppose'' two judges and ``strongly oppose'' three judges.

The two judges the prosecutors oppose are Judges Gilbert Lopez and William Ryan The name William Ryan can refer to:
  • William Fitts Ryan represented New York in Congress from 1961 until his death in 1972
  • William H. Ryan (1860-1939), a U.S. Representative from New York.
. In addition to Oki and Wesley, the prosecutors also voted to strongly oppose Judge Richard Van Dusen.

``A coalition of criminal prosecutors, crime victims' advocates and police will challenge Judge Oki and Judge Wesley for their judicial seats,'' the ADDA said in a full-page advertisement appearing in Tuesday's Los Angeles Daily Journal The Los Angeles Daily Journal is the oldest newspaper serving the legal community in Los Angeles, California. Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini said he talked to Lopez, Ryan and Van Dusen, who were ``surprised'' they had been targeted for opposition.

``(They) wanted to have some time to try to reflect on the advertisement and determine if they want to have any response at all.''

Oki could not be reached for comment. Hal Dash, a spokesman for Wesley, said the judge was the target of a ``political vendetta'' by the prosecutors association, and would fight to keep his job.

``Judge Wesley will raise, if need be, six figures and defeat this campaign because he's an unfair target. It's very difficult to unseat a sitting judge and one who is held in high esteem across the board and has been in law for 30 years,'' Dash said.

On May 28, in a dispute with the District Attorney's Office, Oki and Wesley closed court at 4:30 p.m. to save money, and 31 felony suspects were freed as a result, according to according to
