Schoonmaker said the boy did not get along with an African-American teen-ager who lives in the Almondwood home. He is awaiting trial for a burglary of the Rosewood home, occupied by a white woman, the deputy said.

``He was caught and arrested for that burglary,'' said Schoonmaker. ``He doesn't like to be caught so he's blaming her.''

Officials said they also are investigating whether the youngster was involved in marking a swastika on a synagogue synagogue (sĭn`əgŏg) [Gr.,=assembly], in Judaism, a place of assembly for worship, education, and communal affairs. The origins of the institution are unclear. One tradition dates it to the Babylonian exile of the 6th cent. B.C.  sign in the 1600 block of East Avenue J.

``There are similarities,'' said Schoonmaker. ``The proximity is very, very close. It occurred around the same time.''

The boy has since moved out of Los Angeles County, but is due to make a court appearance Friday in Lancaster on the burglary charge, officials said.
