DEPUTIES HIT A PALMDALE JACKPOT ABOUT 1,000 MARIJUANA PLANTS SEIZED.

PALMDALE -- Sheriff's deputies raided a Palmdale home Thursday where they found an elaborate marijuana marijuana or marihuana, drug obtained from the flowering tops, stems, and leaves of the hemp plant, Cannabis sativa (see hemp) or C. indica; the latter species can withstand colder climates.  growing operation.

The bust netted approximately 1,000 plants, capable of producing millions of dollars worth of the drug each year, a Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Narcotics narcotics n. 1) techinically, drugs which dull the senses. 2) a popular generic term for drugs which cannot be legally possessed, sold, or transported except for medicinal uses for which a physician or dentist's prescription is required.  Bureau detective said.

Palmdale sheriff's station Sgt. Kyle Bistine said information leading to a home in the 2400 block of Carolyn Drive was developed by a sheriff's deputy earlier in the week.

Two adults were arrested on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana, but officials hadn't released any information on them by Thursday evening.

Bistine said the home appeared to be used exclusively for the purposes of cultivating marijuana, noting an absence of beds or living-room furniture. He said it was not clear whether the suspects owned or rented the home.

"It was a growing home," he said.

The home is part of a newly built subdivision that overlooks Highland High School Highland High School or Highlands High School may refer to:

. A sheriff's deputy said those arrested would have faced more serious charges if the home were within 1,000 feet of the school.

The marijuana cultivators rigged an electrical system that allowed them to bypass the home's metering system while tapping into Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Edison's power grid. This served two purposes, allowing them to save thousands of dollars in electrical bills, and more importantly, eluding e·lude

"Very sophisticated, it's a really good setup," narcotics Detective Ken Price said. "They're not good housekeepers, because the place is a mess, but as far as the setup and the way they've got it going with the lighting and the timers and the watering, it's a good setup.

"They know what they're doing."

Thursday's bust was the sixth in the Antelope Valley in the past month, and the second in west Palmdale in two days.

On Tuesday, sheriff's deputies discovered approximately 200 plants in a west Palmdale home in the 3900 block of Evening Star Street.

Bistine said there is no known connection between the two raids.

A call from a neighbor who noticed suspicious activity in front of the Evening Star home triggered the early Tuesday morning raid.
