DEPUTIES CONDUCT SWEEP ILLEGAL VENDORS, CURFEW VIOLATORS CITED IN RAID.

PALMDALE - In response to numerous resident and business owner complaints, Palmdale sheriff's deputies conducted a 12-hour sweep, first targeting illegal vendors before focusing on curfew violators.

Sheriff's officials said many of the calls the sheriff's station receives after 10 p.m. are related to juveniles creating disturbances.

Business owners have also made complaints about illegal vendors who sell their wares on street corners, freeway off-ramps or in open fields and undercut local businesses.

During the 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. sweep, deputies gave 26 citations for curfew violations and seven illegal vendor citations.

Three misdemeanor warrant arrests were made, as well as one citation for possession of marijuana and one arrest for possession of narcotic narcotic, any of a number of substances that have a depressant effect on the nervous system. The chief narcotic drugs are opium, its constituents morphine and codeine, and the morphine derivative heroin.
