DEPUTIES BOOST PATROLS AT 2 SHOPPING CENTERS.

LANCASTER -- Answering citizens' complaints about crime, two deputies will be assigned full time to police two east Lancaster shopping centers shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into , while deputies on horseback on the back of a horse; mounted or riding on a horse or horses; in the saddle.

``Not only do the kids love them, the bad guys are scared to death of them,'' Deeley said of the mounted patrols. ``They have a great view of the parking lot. They can see everything that goes on.''

The Target Oriented Policing deputies will start Monday at the centers, officials said. Two mounted deputies have been signed up to start the horse patrols Sunday.
