DEPUTIES ARREST 2 IN FAILED THEFT.

NEWHALL - Two men were arrested Thursday, three hours after their failed attempt to steal $1,200 worth of cigarettes and chewing tobacco chewing tobacco,

 from a storage area behind a Newhall grocery store, a sheriff's official said.

The pair were arrested after they entered a cigarette shop across Lyons Avenue from the Albertsons market that was hit earlier, officials said.

The two went to get their car, a 1989 Toyota, and returned to be confronted by Albertsons employees, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Richard Larue. The suspects ran off, leaving the Toyota behind.

Sheriff's deputies set up a containment at the Orchard Village Condominiums on Lyons and were about to leave when Thompson saw two men who matched the descriptions enter the second location.

Thompson quickly radioed Deputy Sammy Soehnel, who detained the two men.
