It became popular, spreading from the east coast of the United States to the west coast, in large part via women's colleges.  coach Jackie Lott has rarely enjoyed in her first seven seasons at the school.

Year eight is different though, a reason why the normally optimistic Lott is a notch higher on the enthusiasm scale.

``(Assistant coach Jeff Lensch) and I have been smiling like Cheshire cats since August,'' Lott said.

The Marauders return just four sophomores from last season's 16-10 team, and the status of guard Channel Edwards is in limbo due to administrative requirements yet to be fulfilled.

That would seem to be a major loss, given Edwards is one of three returning Marauders coming off All-Foothill League performances. But AVC (1) (Advanced Video Coding) The video compression techniques used in the H.264 standard, jointly developed by ISO and the ITU-T. See H.264.

``I think this is going to be a special team,'' Lott said. ``. . . It's a smart team that works hard in the classroom and on the court. The chemistry is very good right now.

``I haven't had this kind of depth before. We're seven or eight deep at guard alone. It's hard to have any depth at every position at the junior-college level.''

``Kristin is leading this team by example. She plays her heart out at every practice and she's helped the younger players out,'' Lott said.

Duty as Phillips' backcourt partner could be shared by two freshmen.

The backcourt depth could be more solidified if sophomore Amy Egan, who blew out a knee last January, comes back at full strength. Lott said Egan is almost ready to go. Joyce Matus, another returning sophomore from the backcourt, provides more experience.

``We will use our speed,'' Lott said. ``I don't think teams will want to get into a track meet with us.''

``I honestly think this is my best group of athletes since I've been here,'' Lott said.
