DENMARK SELECTS LORAL'S MULTIPLE LAUNCH ROCKET SYSTEM TO STRENGTHEN SELF-DEFENSE CAPABILITY [The U.S. Army released the following memorandum for correspondents on October 30, 1995].


--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 1995--The Department of Defense notified the Congress today that the Government of Denmark Denmark is a constitutional monarchy with a representative democracy based on a unicameral parliamentary system. The affairs of Government are decided by a Cabinet of Ministers, which is led by a Prime Minister.  has requested the purchase of the Multiple Launch Rocket System at an estimated cost of $146 million.

Included in the proposed sale would be 12 vehicle mounted launchers, 300 extended range tactical rocket pods, 25 practice rocket pods, spare and repair parts and other related elements of program support.

Denmark is undertaking the implementation of a new area fire system capability with the MLRS MLRS Multiple Launch Rocket System (US DoD)

MLRS Marine Corps Long-Range Study (US DoD) 
 for use against hostile artillery, air defense and maneuver elements. Denmark would have no difficulty absorbing the MLRS into its armed forces and will use the system to enhance and strengthen its self-defense capability and interoperability with U.S. forces.

There would be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale. The Department of the Army would be responsible for all transactions related to this proposed sale.
