DENBY GLAD TO BE BACK.

Kara Kara (kär`ə), river, c.140 mi (230 km) long, NE European and NW Siberian Russia. It flows N from the N Urals into the Kara Sea, forming part of the traditional border between European and Asian Russia. It is navigable in its lower course.  Denby is used to being around some of the world's fastest swimmers.

Denby, a Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  resident and 11-year veteran of Conejo Simi Aquatics Club, has also demonstrated she can hold her own against such elite competition.  and placed in the top 12 in three individual events as a freshman at the NCAA Championships in March.

Following those strong performances, Denby appeared primed to make a big splash at this year's Senior Nationals, which begin today at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatic Complex in Irvine.

Unfortunately for the Trinity Pacific Christian of Newbury Park graduate, tests revealed a torn tendon in her left knee that required surgery.

Denby feared the surgery and rehabilitation would prevent her from competing at all this summer. But on the eve On the Eve (Накануне in Russian) is the third novel by famous Russian writer Ivan Turgenev, best known for his short stories and the novel Fathers and Sons.  of the five-day competition, the 2003 Junior National champion in the 50- and 100-meter freestyles is just happy to have the opportunity to swim against some of the world's best.

Denby is one of a dozen local athletes competing at the event, which features 33 individuals - 10 of whom were medalists at the recent World Championships - who competed for the U.S. men's and women's teams against Australia on Tuesday night in the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool The Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool is a swimming event begun in 2003, and held every other year.

The event pits the big swimming stars of the United States against the big stars of Australia, started as an idea by USA Swimming to keep the developing rivalry between the two
.

La Canada High graduate Maryann Boosalis, who will attend Washington in the fall, is also scheduled to compete, along with Crespi of Encino senior-to-be Patrick Simpkins.

Completing the list of area entries are juniors-to-be John Criste of Saugus and Crescenta Valley of La Crescenta's Sara Sun, the 2005 Daily News' Swimmers of the Year.

Criste, who competes for Canyons Aquatic Club, is the highest-seeded area athlete, boasting the fifth-fastest entry time in the men's 200 breaststroke. Andrade, who also swims for Canyons, is seeded 11th in the women's 100 breaststroke.
