Demus and Henderson, both juniors, are scheduled to run in the 500 yards in the meet's marquee high school event at 8:05 p.m. Demus, however, is taking the Scholastic Assessment Test on Saturday morning. The Palmdale resident will not make a decision whether to run in the 500 yards until the day of the meet. Although her status is unknown for the 500, Demus, who is entered in the 55 meters, will compete in an individual event or relay. ``It does not matter who is in the race,'' Demus said about her rivalry with Henderson. ``Competition is competition. I am not really worried about it. Somewhere down the line I am going to race her.'' Gahr sophomore Angel Perkins, a state finalist in the 100 and 200 meters last season, and City Section 400-meter champion Laloni Anderson, are also entered in the 500 yards. The field also includes Missouri's Christy Fairley and Maggie Vessey of Soquel. Demus was the national high school leader and set sophomore national records of 40.44 seconds in the 300-meter low hurdles and 57.04 in the 400-meter hurdles. In addition, she won the 400 hurdles in the USA Track & Field and Pan-American junior championships. She also ranked third in the open 500 at 53.06.
