DEMOLISH THIS BILL.

Byline: Gerry Kelly This article is about the Sinn Féin politician. For the UTV presenter of the same name, see Gerry Kelly (broadcaster).

HOUSING legislation that would never have made it through the Assembly without significant amendments is unfortunately being forced through Westminster by Des Browne using the Order in Council legislative process.

That means there is no scope for amending this flawed flaw 1
n.
1. An imperfection, often concealed, that impairs soundness: a flaw in the crystal that caused it to shatter. See Synonyms at blemish.

2.
legislation - it will be passed without change.

The legislation does not include a commitment to the right of every person to a home. This is a basic human right. Similarly there is an omission from the Bill of any definition of anti-social behaviour.

It does not deal with the central problem around a lack of social housing and the lack of affordable housing, both of which mean there are very high waiting lists skewed skewed

curve of a usually unimodal distribution with one tail drawn out more than the other and the median will lie above or below the mean.

skewed Epidemiology adjective Referring to an asymmetrical distribution of a population or of data
towards areas that suffer significant levels of multiple deprivation.

Browne should not force this legislation through. People have waited a generation for a Bill that would deal with issues surrounding housing. He has not listened to local politicians, he should scrap this flawed legislation and let local politicians decide.
