 at a Democratic fund-raiser Sunday.

The students will sing ``God Bless America'' with Streisand and ``Let Freedom Ring'' with Manilow at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Kodak Theatre The Kodak Theatre is a live theatre in the Hollywood and Highland retail, dining, and entertainment complex on Hollywood Boulevard and North Highland Avenue in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles.  in Hollywood as part of a fund-raiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (commonly referred to as the "D triple C," or the "D-Trip") is the Democratic Hill committee for the United States House of Representatives, working to elect Democrats to that body. .

This week, the students rehearsed with Streisand, who was ``very friendly'' and ``told them she was delighted they were here,'' said Paul Smith, associate professor of music and director of choral studies at CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge .

``It was a really wonderful experience,'' said Shira Brown, 24, of Northridge, a vocal performance major. ``I've grown up my whole life listening to her; it was kind of surreal to see her sitting right there. She sounds just as good live as she does on a recording - it's amazing.''

The 24 singers are members of Northridge Singers, the university's top vocal major ensemble, which has performed with top musicians before, including jazz artist Wynton Marsalis Wynton Learson Marsalis (b. He is also the Musical Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center.  at the Hollywood Bowl in September 2001 and with Manilow on New Year's Eve 2001 at the Kodak.

Smith said such real-world experiences complement classroom skills.

``It just reinforces those things that we have been teaching at the university: professionalism, preparation, and developing skills and techniques so you can be ready when opportunities come your way,'' he said.

``The opportunities are coming forth because these students have been working very, very hard.''

Streisand's performance for the Democratic National Gala concert is expected to be more than twice as long as her performance two years ago for an Al Gore presidential fund-raiser, which helped raise more than $5 million in funds.

``Barbara's passionate belief in the importance of the Democratic Party's regaining control of the House of Representatives is so deep that she has decided to sing three times as many songs as was originally planned,'' said David Foster, producer of the event. ``One of these will be a political parody that will raise a few eyebrows.''
