DEMOCRAT THROWS HAT IN RING FOR WILDMAN'S SEAT.

Toluca Lake resident Paul Krekorian Paul Krekorian was elected in 2006 to serve California's 43rd Assembly District, which includes the cities of Glendale and Burbank and the Los Feliz, Silver Lake, North Hollywood, Valley Glen, Toluca Lake, Atwater Village and Valley Village communities of Los Angeles.  on Friday became the first candidate to formally announce he will run for the 43rd District Assembly seat.

Krekorian, a Democrat, is a lawyer with Leopold, Petrich & Smith in Century City and specializes in business litigation An action brought in court to enforce a particular right. The act or process of bringing a lawsuit in and of itself; a judicial contest; any dispute.

That year, he lost a State Senate primary to Dr. Jack Scott, an Assemblyman from a neighboring district. Wildman received 46.7% of the vote. , D-Glendale, is giving it up to run for the 21st District state Senate seat now held by Sen. Adam Schiff

, D-Pasadena. Wildman is seeking the new job because he is facing term limits in the Assembly in 2002 but could potentially stretch his legislative career in Sacramento to 2008 if he wins two four-year terms in the Senate.

``Locally we need to be very concerned about continuing problems with Burbank Airport, stopping the development of Oakmont, fostering the continuing growth of the entertainment industry and retaining production jobs,'' said Krekorian, 39. ``I really think the entertainment industry is key to the future health of California economy.''

Krekorian said he would continue Wildman's efforts to stop film production from leaving California.

``We must stop Canadian efforts to steal these jobs with their unfair trade practices,'' Krekorian said.

Krekorian said the shootings at the Jewish Community Center in Granada Hills show that legislators need to do more to prevent gun violence.

``The gun violence issue is a driving, motivating force for me. It's shocking to me that we have these shootings and that we have legislators who seem unable to respond,'' Krekorian said.

No one has come forward yet on the Republican side, but Glendale schools administrator Alice Petrossian and lawyer Craig Missakian have said they might run for the Republican nomination in the March primary. Democrat Dario Frommer Dario Frommer (born October 22, 1963 in Long Beach, California) was a member of the California State Assembly from 2000 until 2006. He served as Majority Leader from 2004 until 2006. Frommer also served as Chair of the Health Committee. , appointments secretary to Gov. Gray Davis, still is considering whether he will run.

The general election will be held in November 2000.
