Mark DeMik, senior vice president and manager of Mission Valley Bank, has been appointed to the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita.  American Red Cross Council president, DeMik was chosen for his skill, knowledge and expertise in the financial arena, as well as his strong organizational and financial management abilities. He will serve a two-year term.

The Santa Clarita Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross has been serving the community for over 30 years, and all the funds generated are used for local health and education services, as well as disaster services.

While the Santa Clarita Valley is part of the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Chapter of the American Red Cross, the unique geographical boundaries of the Santa Clarita Valley almost make the SCV an island unto itself, thus allowing for all dollars raised for the Red Cross to stay in Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. ``I chose to volunteer my time to the SCV Chapter of the American Red Cross and serve on the council board of directors because each and every time there is a disaster in the Santa Clarita Valley, the Red Cross is there,'' DeMik said. ``From the devastation of the 1994 (Northridge) Earthquake to the fires of 2004 and the extensive flooding of 2005, as well as smaller-scale daily emergencies like house fires, the Red Cross and its core of disaster volunteers were first on the scene to help.

``However, these services don't come free and I am looking forward to being part of the fundraising arm for the Santa Clarita Valley area.''

DeMik has been a resident of Santa Clarita since 1982. In addition to his new appointment to the SCV American Red Cross board, he currently serves on the the SCV YMCA YMCA
 in full Young Men's Christian Association

``DeMik's strong business acumen and his long-established business relationships in Santa Clarita make him an ideal fundraising board member for the Santa Clarita Valley,'' Goldman said. ``This year the SCV Los Angeles Chapter of American Red Cross is committed to raising $250,000.''
