DELTEC INTRODUCES POWERWORKS ET MODULAR ON-LINE UPS FAMILY -- FIRST UPS TO INTELLIGENTLY SAVE BATTERY POWER.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 30, 1996--

Ideal for industrial, telecommunications Communicating information, including data, text, pictures, voice and video over long distance. See communications.  and network applications

Deltec Electronics Corp. Wednesday introduced its family of modular on-line UPSs that feature hot-swappable batteries, PowerPass surge suppression The diverting and/or diminishing of excessive current and voltage from the AC power line, which can damage sensitive electronic equipment. Power surges generally last less than 50 microseconds, but can reach as much as 6,000 volts and draw 3,000 amps when they arrive at the equipment.  modules, Cell Saver technology for increased battery life and an automatic bypass switch to prevent loads from crashing, and include Deltec's LanSafe III and FailSafe III power management software.

The 1000 VA to 3000 VA PowerWorks ET UPSs are especially designed for harsh power environments where severe overvoltage and brown-out situations occur. Available with multiple battery packs and Deltec's innovative Cell Saver technology, users are assured of extended run times and increased battery life.

Cell Saver increases the life of the UPS batteries by minimizing battery usage during normal operation. By extending the input voltage range, the PowerWorks ET regulates the power in a power surge An oversupply of voltage from the power company that can last up to 50 microseconds. Although surges are very short in duration, they often reach 6,000 volts and 3,000 amps when they arrive at the equipment. Power surges are a common cause of damage to computers and electronic equipment.  or sag situation without using the UPSs batteries -- thus saving critical battery backup See UPS.  time for protected systems during power outages This is a list of famous wide-scale power outages. 1965

To further maximize system uptime, battery modules can be hot-swapped allowing users to replace or add modules without powering down connected loads. For extended backup times, users can quickly daisy-chain and stack multiple battery packs. In addition, the modular design In the context of systems engineering, modular design — or "modularity in design" — is an approach aiming to subdivide a system into smaller parts (modules) that can be independently created and then used in different systems to drive multiple functionalities.  of the ET allows for quick and easy set-up and service.

Furthermore, available options for the PowerWorks ET include a PowerPass module that provides surge suppression and a maintenance bypass switch for critical equipment. With the PowerPass module, users can remove the UPS (for replacement or upgrade) without interrupting power to the protected systems. The PowerPass also sports six power receptacles and one extra off-line receptacle to protect a laser printer from power surges.

Through the PowerWorks ET front panel, users can quickly view LEDs that show UPS status, utility power, load percentage, battery percentage, battery power and fault diagnostics.

For complete hardware and data protection on a single workstation or across an entire network, Deltec's LanSafe III/FailSafe III power management software (which comes standard with the PowerWorks ET) automatically monitors protected systems and conducts an orderly and prioritized shutdown shut·down

during an extended blackout A complete loss of power. See brownout. .

During extended power failures, Deltec's exclusive SafetyNet sequential shutdown feature offers network administrators automatic shutdown of all network devices, including multiple servers and workstations.

SafetyNet technology enables system administrators to establish a user-defined logical shutdown where the most critical equipment (such as database or file servers) is shut down last, after work in progress has been saved from client workstations through hubs, switches, routers and communication servers.

, users can quickly see various states of power on the network, as well as UPS status. Through the software's Power Log, power events and alerts such as confirmation that UPS communication has been established, utility power failure, UPS shutdown time, utility power restored and other messages are logged to give users a current and historical record of power problems.

LanSafe's PowerScope screen shows real-time power and UPS status data in an easy-to-understand graphical display.

The PowerWorks ET bundled with LanSafe III/FailSafe III power management software starts at $999. For more information, visit Deltec's Web site at http://www.deltecpower.com or contact Deltec at 800/DELTEC-1, or through e-mail at info@deltecpower.com.
