In a deal approved by the City Council unanimously Wednesday night, Delta Scientific Corp. will build a manufacturing plant of 100,000 square feet to 125,000 square feet on 8.73 acres along Avenue O just west of Division Street. The plant is expected to employ at least 100 people within the first two years of operation.

``Palmdale's a great place to do business,'' said David Dickinson For other persons named David Dickinson, see David Dickinson (disambiguation).

The company plans to spend about $2 million to expand the Palmdale plant at a later date by 30,000 square feet to 65,000 square feet. When the second phase is completed, an additional 50 people would be hired.

The agreement calls for the company to pay Palmdale $988,725 for the land. The city, in turn, would spend that money to install streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, street lights and utilities.

The company will be the second to relocate to an area known as the Fairway Business Park. The business park, covering 120 acres, was acquired by the city's redevelopment agency in 1999 for the purpose of attracting large employers.

Earlier this year, U.S. Pole Co. became the first company to start operations in the business park. The company, which relocated re·lo·cate

The city plans to install improvements totaling about $3.5 million into the business park. The improvements will be done in phases as money becomes available.
