DELMIA-sponsored FIRST Robotics team, Bloomfield Hills International
Academy, has won a gold medal at the Detroit Regional Competition and a
silver medal at the Great Lakes Regional Competition. The Academy, which
has employed DELMIA DELMIA Digital Enterprise Lean Manufacturing Interactive Application V5 Robotics suite as part of its software solution,
is now preparing for the national championship event, where over 300
teams will compete from April 27 - 29 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The FIRST Robotics program charges teams of high school students -- sponsored and assisted by mentor designers, engineers and programmers -- to design, assemble and test a robot capable of performing a specified task in competition with other teams. This year's competition features remote-controlled robots, piloted by students, launching NERF basketballs into a hole in a ten foot high backboard back·board n. 1. A board placed under or behind something to provide firmness or support. 2. A board placed beneath the body of a person with an injury to the neck or back, used especially in transporting the person in such a way . "After all of the hard work, we are thrilled that our students have performed so well," said Gail Alpert, coach of the International Academy team. "The teams have only six weeks to design and build the robots from a common kit of motors and electronics. Certainly, the support from DELMIA and access to the V5 Robotics solution has helped us be successful." "With such a short time to ramp-up this program, the user-friendliness of the V5 Robotics solution plays a critical role," said Roy Smolky, DELMIA Worldwide Academic Programs. "We are glad our solutions contributed in getting the team this far and we look forward to them winning a medal in Atlanta." In addition to supporting the International Academy team, DELMIA offered one seat of V5 to all of the 100 Michigan teams taking part in the competition to aid in the design of the robots. Through its DELMIA Academic Partner Program (DAPP DAPP Development Aid from People to People DAPP Departamento de Avaliação Prospectiva e Planeamento (Ministério da Educação, Portugal) DAPP Data Acquisition and Processing Program (later DMSP) ), DELMIA software is being used as part of the curriculum at 20 Michigan universities, colleges, high schools, technical schools and other academic institutions throughout Michigan. The DAPP program has shown that students are more likely to get hired into the workforce when they are already trained in the latest computer-aided digital design and manufacturing software programs, which are increasingly being implemented by today's manufacturers.
