DELL PROMOTES MARTIN TO WORLDWIDE MARKETING VP; New Position Created To Support Dell's Trans-national Focus

 AUSTIN, Texas, July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Dell Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: DELL) announced today the promotion of Thomas B. Martin to vice president of worldwide marketing for all of Dell's operating subsidiaries. In this newly created position, Martin will continue to report directly to Joel Kocher, Dell's president of worldwide sales, marketing and service operations.
 In his new position, Martin will manage all marketing activities for Dell and its 19 wholly-owned subsidiaries including advertising, direct marketing programs and development strategies to market new and existing products and services.
 "As Dell continues to expand its trans-national focus, it is important that we have a strong and consistent global marketing message," Kocher said. "To achieve this goal, we need a well-seasoned marketing expert. With Tom's extensive marketing background and intimate familiarity with Dell, we believe that he is the right person to tackle the challenge."
 Martin, 38, previously served as vice president of marketing for Dell domestically. Prior to joining Dell, Martin served as vice president of marketing for the Computer Systems Division at Toshiba America Information Systems in Irvine, Calif. He also held the positions of vice president and assistant vice president for the Illinois-based NEC Technologies in the company's computer strategic business unit and strategic planning groups.
 Martin earned his master's degree in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1981, and a bachelor's degree in both electrical engineering and in urban studies from Brown University in 1977.
