Dell topped the list of 100 companies that represent the best of the hard-chargers in technology, edging out British cellular operator Vodafone Group Plc, German software house SAP AG (company) SAP AG - (Systeme, Anwendungen, Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung - German for "Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing") A company from Germany that sells the leading suite of client-server business software. The US branch is called SAP America. , Finnish telecom giant Nokia Oy and US-based computer distributor Ingram Micro Ingram Micro, Inc. NYSE: IM a Fortune 100 company founded in 1979 and based in Santa Ana, California. It is the world’s largest technology distributor and a leading technology sales, marketing and logistics company.  Inc. Rounding out the top ten were, America Online Inc, Compuware Corp, Microsoft Corp, EMC (1) (EMC Corporation, Hopkinton, MA, www.emc.com) The leading supplier of storage products for midrange computers and mainframes. Founded in 1979 by Richard J. Egan and Roger Marino, EMC has developed advanced storage and retrieval technologies for the world's largest companies.  Corp and Lexmark International Group Inc. The companies were ranked on several criteria: revenues, revenue growth, return on equity, total shareholder return and profits. Among other notables, Cisco Systems Inc ranked 11, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Corp ranked 22, Oracle Corp ranked 34, and Sun Microsystems ranked 40, while Hewlett- Packard Co was 63 and Compaq Computer Corp languished in the 96 spot, largely due to its acquisition of Digital Equipment Corp. IBM, HP and Lucent Technologies Inc are the top in overall size, based on revenue. As far as revenue growth goes, @Home Networks Inc, Amazon.com Inc and Verio Inc held the top three spots. Mindspring Enterprises Inc, Yahoo! Inc and Earthlink Network Inc led in shareholder return, and Vanguard Cellular Systems Inc, Vodafone and Dell showed the best return on equity.
