DELIVERING ON SOLEMN PROMISE FLINTRIDGE PREP RUNS TO FOURTH CHAMPIONSHIP.

Byline: Erik Boal Special to the Daily News

FRESNO - Tom McLean Tom McLean is a veteran of both the Parachute Regiment and the SAS and is a survival expert who lived on the island of Rockall from 26 May to 4 July 1985 to affirm Britain's claim to the island.  remembered standing outside the awards tent at Woodward Park Woodward Park (34 acres) is a public park, botanical garden, and arboretum located between 21st Street and 24th Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA.  hoist the Div. V state championship plaque after beating the Rebels by 10 points.

At that point McLean and the other Flintridge Prep underclassmen promised each other that when they returned to Fresno in 2004, they weren't going to settle for second again.

Flintridge Prep made good on the promise Saturday.

McLean finished fourth and Tom Adams “Tom Adams” redirects here. For other people known as Tom Adams, see Tom Adams (disambiguation).

, Matt McCluggage and Tony Myint placed in the top 20 as Flintridge Prep won its region-record fourth state title in seven years with a dominant victory in the Div. V state final. The Rebels finished with 82 points, far ahead of second-place Woodcrest Christian of Riverside, which scored 115.

Flintridge Prep was among three local boys' teams - joining Royal of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  in Div. ``We did exactly what we wanted to do,'' said McLean - one of five Rebels seniors - who clocked 16 minutes, 13 seconds on the 5,000-meter course to earn his second consecutive all-state honor, following a second- place finish last season.

``Gus (Zoell), Tony and I were so dedicated to winning this, and we said we were going to give absolutely everything we have to make sure it happened. This is not something every team gets a chance to do, experiencing the state meet or winning a state championship. And it's awesome to go out on top.''

After suffering just its second Prep League loss in a decade in late September and not fielding its full varsity lineup - because of illnesses and injuries - until early November, Flintridge Prep wasn't considered the favorite to end the season on top in Fresno.

But with McCluggage putting together three strong races to close the season, and Thomas Flynn Thomas Flynn (born 8 July, 1931 is a Roman Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Achonry[1].      providing invaluable depth, Flintridge Prep coach Ingrid Herskind returned to familiar territory last week at the Southern Section finals and again Saturday: the winner's circle win·ner's circle

``I don't think about how long I've been coaching or what I've done, but it's kind of exciting (to win a fourth title),'' said Herskind, whose team surpassed Hart of Newhall - which won three consecutive Div. I boys' state titles from 1990 to 1992 - as the most decorated boys' program in the region.

``For Gus and Tony and Tom (McLean), who have been together the whole time, this is really great for them. And for Matt McCluggage, what a way to end his career. It's just a nice way to wrap things up.''

And the Rebels did it in their normal fashion; the victory was their third by 30 or more points in a state final, joining impressive wins in 1999 and 2002. Flintridge Prep's closest margin of victory was eight points over Maranatha of Pasadena in 1998.

``It's kind of hard to express how much it means to end your whole career by winning a state title,'' Myint said. ``It's like a dreamy dream·y

The dream is shared by the Flintridge Prep girls, who finished third in Div. V for the second consecutive year. They tallied 92 points, falling just short in a tight battle with Maranatha (82) and Woodcrest Christian (91).
