DEL WEBB HOME SALES AND BACKLOG PROJECTED AT RECORD LEVELS

DEL WEBB HOME SALES AND BACKLOG PROJECTED AT RECORD LEVELS
PHOENIX, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Del Webb Corp. (NYSE: WBB) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Philip J. Dion, speaking at a Montgomery Securities conference in San Francisco today, said home sales and backlog for the company's first quarter will reach record levels as a result of sales activity at it newest community, Sun City Palm Springs, Calif.
"We expect Sun City Palm Springs should have approximately 250 to 260 sales in our backlog at the end of September," Dion said. "These sales contracts are primarily the result of the conversion of reservations taken from February to June. We anticipate that future sales activity will rely more on continued customer visitation to our model homes and community," Dion said.
As a group, sales contracts and closings at Webb's other active adult communities in Phoenix, Tucson, Ariz., and Las Vegas should record a modest increase over last year's first quarter results.
Coventry Homes, the company's conventional housing operation in Phoenix, is expected to have a strong level of closings in the first quarter as it builds out of several subdivisions. As a result sales will decline 15-20 percent until new subdivisions are brought into production later this fiscal year.
Dion said the company will release its first quarter sales, closing and backlog results for each community and Coventry in early October.
Del Webb Corp. is the nation's leading developer of active adult communities with projects in the Phoenix, Tucson, Las Vegas and Palm Springs, Calif., metropolitan areas.
