DEL WEBB ACQUIRES 5,661-ACRE PARCEL NORTH OF PHOENIX
PHOENIX, Arizona, June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Del Webb Corporation (NYSE: WBB) announced today it has purchased a 5,661-acre land parcel just north of Phoenix, Ariz. as the future site for a new master planned community.
The parcel is approximately three miles north of Carefree Highway and bounded by Interstate 17 on the west, 7th Avenue on the east and Desert Hills Road on the north. The price and terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Philip J. Dion said that development of the land will not begin for years. "This parcel provides us with the long term opportunity to maintain a presence in the Phoenix market with an active adult community. However, we will also evaluate other uses for the site," Dion said.
Dion acknowledged that the planning process will include close collaboration with government and regulatory officials, as well as property owners in the New River area.
"This site is particularly appealing and we will focus our plans for development to complement the natural beauty and the environment of the area," Dion said.
Del Webb Corporation, based in Phoenix, is the nation's leading developer of active adult communities with projects in the Phoenix, Tucson, Las Vegas and Palm Springs areas.
