Crespi (3-3), ranked sixth by the Daily News, was looking to run out the clock after taking over on downs with two minutes remaining. But a fumbled exchange from center on a third-down play near midfield gave No. 8 Chaminade (4-2) one last opportunity. Chaminade, which recorded a 14-10 victory over the Celts in the team's last meeting in 2001, was able to contain Crespi's rushing attack for the majority of the contest.
