She can swing, she can boogie, she can tango and line dance. But the shoes that Edith Resurreccion fills best are those of a mother, and Tuesday she and 500 other women were honored for that very reason.

The luncheon brought together mothers of all ethnicities and backgrounds for an occasion where the elderly are sometimes forgotten, said Scott Suh, master of ceremonies.

``We believe the mother is the most important person in the family, especially for senior citizens who are often overlooked on Mother's Day,'' said Suh, vice president of Civil Society, a Korean and African-American coalition that also sponsored the event.

``Being a mother, you have someone you can depend on, your children,'' said Chandler, of Los Angeles. ``They can do things for you and you can do things for them.''
