DECORATIVE KITTY LITTER BOX GETS TWO PAWS UP.

Byline: Susan Abram Staff Writer

SAUGUS - At the sight and smell of a kitty litter box A litter box, sometimes called a "sandbox", "sand box", "litter tray", "litter pan", "catbox", or "cat box" is an indoor feces and urine disposal box for cats (as well as rabbits and other pets that naturally or through training will make use of such a repository) that are , Julie Wiseman realized through her nose that necessity was indeed the mother of all inventions.

So after five years of research, including interviewing veterinarians Veterinarians and veterinary surgeons (vets) are medical professionals who operate exclusively on animals. Well-known and notable veterinarians include:
  • Wayne Allard, a U.S.
, sifting through cat magazines and observing her two cats Heidi and Missy, and several prototypes later, Wiseman had invented what she considers to be the most effective, and snappiest-looking kitty litter box cover around, patent pending. ``I just always hated litter boxes but I love cats,'' said Wiseman, a Saugus resident. ``I always thought the litter box covers out there were boring. So I started playing around with some designs.''

Indeed, her covers, nicknamed Tabby Shacks, are meant to accessorize ac·ces·sor·ize

Shaped like a doll's house A Doll House (literally translated A Dollhouse from the original Norwegian title Et dukkehjem) is an 1879 play by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. , the Tabby Shack stands at about 28 inches tall, and 20 inches deep and is made with corrugated plastic Corrugated plastic, also known under the tradenames of Coroplast, Correx, Corriflute or Twinplast, refers to a wide range of extruded twinwall plastic sheet products produced from high impact polypropylene resin with a similar make up to corrugated fiberboard. . Her cats, Heidi and Missy, give them two paws up for their design and accessibility, Wiseman said. Unlike other covers, the Tabby Shacks offer two exits for skittish skit·tish

``Cats are claustrophobic,'' Wiseman said. ``I was up all night watching them and when I tried a prototype with two holes, they liked it. I just like it because they are decorative and you don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

According to U.S. Census figures released last year, 32 percent of all American households have cats, many with more than one.

Wiseman said that while she has thought of inventing many other items in the last 30 years, the Tabby Shack was the first idea that she pursued.

``It's amazing to me that anybody goes into business,'' Wiseman said. ``There's so much involved. It's expensive. It requires a lot of attention. It's overwhelming, but I felt more strongly about this idea.''
