ARCADIA - Unbeaten Declan's Moon hadn't raced since winning the Hollywood Futurity The Hollywood Futurity is an American Grade I race for thoroughbred two-year-olds race horses.  son of Malibu Moon, who brought a 4-0 record into the Santa Catalina, acted up in the paddock when trainer Ron Ellis Ronald John Edward Ellis (born January 8, 1945 in Lindsay, Ontario) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey right winger who played 16 seasons in the National Hockey League for the Toronto Maple Leafs.  tried to saddle him.

But he settled down once he got on the track and rolled to a two-length victory over D. Wayne Lukas-trained Going Wild while running the 1 1/16-mile distance on the main track in 1:42 2/5.

``We hadn't worked him in a week and I think it was just a case of him being a little too fresh,'' said Ellis, a graduate of Monroe of North Hills. ``He'd never given me any problems before while saddling him.''

It turns out the antics by Declan's Moon were all the gelding's connections had to worry about. Once jockey Victor Espinoza set him down for the stretch run, he was ready to fire.

``He was waiting,'' said Espinoza, who has ridden Declan's Moon in his last four races. ``He just waited for me to ask him to run.''

After laying second behind pacesetter Spanish Chestnut through early fractions of 23 2/5, 46 4/5 and 1:10 4/5, Espinoza let Declan's Moon know it was time to go to work at the top of the stretch.

Going Wild, the second choice at 7-2, held second by three lengths over Spanish Chestnut.

--Kentucky warmups: There were three other Kentucky Derby prep races Saturday - two at Gulfstream Park in Florida and one at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas.
