Team members from Taft said Wednesday they remain determined to keep the state and possibly even the national trophies in Woodland Hills.

And with the national championship in Honolulu next month, winning the top prize would be an extra-sweet victory.

"We're working as hard as we can and we're looking forward to having a good time," said Taft senior Brittany Gorin. "Hawaii is definitely a big incentive."

The Los Angeles teams will compete against those from across the state, including Moorpark and Oxnard high schools from Ventura County and private-school winner Bishop Alemany High School Bishop Alemany High School is a Roman Catholic secondary school located in the Mission Hills neighboorhood of Los Angeles, California, located in the San Fernando Valley. Although teams can compete with as few as six students, each typically has nine: three with grade-point averages of 3.75 to 4.00; three with GPAs of 3.00 to 3.74; and three with GPAs below 3.00.
