DEATH VALLEY HEAT HORROR KILLS BOY, 11.

A BOY aged 11 has died in blistering heat after getting stranded on a camping trip with his mum.

Alicia Sanchez, 28, and her son Carlos were in a Jeep that got stuck in sand in a remote part of Death Valley National Park

According to authorities, nurse Alicia watched in horror as Carlos slowly faded away.

His body was found inside the Jeep.

Alicia was severely dehydrated and airlifted to hospital near her home in Las Vegas. She was said to be in a stable condition.

The family's pet dog also survived the ordeal.

Summer temperatures in Death Valley commonly reach more than 120F - or 49C.

Alicia told rescuers Carlos died on Wednesday - five days after she fixed a flat tyre and continued into Death Valley.

She had been relying on GPS directions. Later, she was unable to get a mobile phone signal.

Death Valley ranger Brent Pennington said. "It's in about as remote and isolated an area as you can find. How she got there I don't know."
