DEAN WITTER OFFERS INVESTORS A NEW WAY TO "BUY AMERICAN" AND CAPITALIZE ON GLOBAL TRENDS AND OPPORTUNITIES.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- APRIL April: see month.  5, 1995--Responding to investors' interest in global opportunities, Dean Witter Dean Witter may refer to:
  • Dean G. Witter (businessman, Co-founder of Dean Witter & Company)
  • Dean Witter Reynolds (brokerage firm, now known as Morgan Stanley)
has introduced the "Glocal STEP" -- a "think globally, invest locally" strategic equity portfolio that enables investors to own an equally dollar-weighted group of U.S. equity issues which stand to benefit from emerging global trends.

William E. Dodge William Earle Dodge (September 4, 1805 - February 9, 1883), was a New York businessman, referred to as one of the "Merchant Princes" of Wall Street in the years leading up to the Civil War. . "Our investment committee currently recommends 13 companies that should benefit from three major trends in the next three to five years.

"One trend is strong growth overseas," says Dodge. "Economic activity in the developing nations in 1995 and 1996 should be approximately double the world average. Combine that with a second trend -- a highly competitive U.S. manufacturing and industrial base -- and U.S. exports could grow by roughly 10 percent. Much of that growth will be in industries that manufacture tools that enhance human productivity, such as pumps, bolts, valves and other products. Those products will continue to be in strong demand in many developing nations."

Dodge says a third trend is less overseas investment by Americans and, correspondingly, more investment in American firms and markets. Dodge says the "glocal" portfolio, "is a sensible way to participate in global growth. We are talking about quality American companies, such as Coca-Cola, Ford, McDonald's, Motorola and Novell. These are established leaders that are well-received in overseas markets and stand to see healthy revenues and share prices over the next three or so years."

The Glocal Strategic Equity Portfolio (Glocal STEP) is open to investors with a minimum of $25,000 to invest. "Like other STEPs we have recently introduced, the Glocal STEP offers the benefits of diversity and professional selection," notes Terence Markey, Director of Branch Equity Sales and Marketing at Dean Witter. "Another attraction is that the investor owns the shares in each of the companies outright. Armed with guidance from Dean Witter's Equity Research professionals and assisted by an Account Executive, the investor has complete control over future purchase and sale decisions."

Other Dean Witter STEPs include High Yield, Total Return, Growth, Emerging Growth, Healthcare, The Recommended List, which consists of equal dollar weightings in the best equity opportunities that Dean Witter Research sees, and the new Market Series STEPs, which include portfolios built with the 10 highest-yielding Dow (Direct OverWrite) See magneto-optic disk.  stocks, the five lowest-priced of the 10 highest-yielding, or all 30 stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average Dow Jones Industrial Average
