Playing career
Mowbray played for Middlesbrough, Celtic, and finally Ipswich Town as a tough centre half.

Corrigan, who will be involved in his last game today at Blackburn Rovers, believes 38-year-old Kiely is the perfect man to take on his role of overseeing the development of Scott Carson Scott Paul Carson (born September 3, 1985 in Whitehaven, Cumbria) is an English football goalkeeper, currently playing for Aston Villa of the English Premier League on loan from Liverpool.  and the club's other young keepers.

Kiely has had to play back-up to Carson for most of the season, but Corrigan said the rivals had a superb, supportive relationship, and he feels Kiely could continue to play as well as coach.

Mowbray has refused to discuss the possibility of Kiely taking up the role until the end of the season but he is sure to be a prime candidate to become Corrigan's successor.

"I have put Dean's name forward but it depends on what Dean wants to do," said Corrigan.

"I rate him as a goalkeeper and I know his capabilities as a coach.

"He has helped me tremendously during his time at the club.

"Having talked with him and worked with him, I know he would like to go in that direction.

"It is up to him whether he wants to take that step.

"I know it is a great period of time to test it out. He is coming to the end of a very illustrious career and I think it would be an ideal situation for him and the club.

Professional "For the continuity, he knows Scott and has worked with him. He can keep on playing himself if he wanted to, if something happened to Scott.

It will be ideal." Corrigan said Kiely had been the consummate professional, despite his frustrations at being left out of the side for most of the season.

"It is a fantastic to have someone like Dean and his experience of playing in the Premiership, to be behind Scott and being so supportive," Corrigan said.

"He knows what it is like because he has been through it like I have.

"He has been through it in the Premiership and they are both good lads to work with.

"I think he can be a good coach. He has the ability, the temperament and the personality to be a really good goalkeeping coach.

"He is very supportive of Scott and the first to talk to Scott after a game. We all talk as a group about the goals we concede.
