DEAL TO ALLOW SCHOOL'S EXPANSION.

An elite North Hollywood private school can expand as long as it alleviates traffic and parking woes that fueled neighborhood opposition to the plan, a City Council committee decided Wednesday.

Several people who live near the Oakwood School Oakwood School is a K-12 coeducational independent day school, situated on two campuses approximately one mile apart, in North Hollywood, California. One campus is the elementary school, and the other is the secondary school.  had protested the Moorpark Street campus' expansion from 250 to 400 students. They said parents - including actors and entertainment executives - overwhelm the residential neighborhood with traffic when they drop their kids off at school.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  City Council's Planning and Land Use Management committee approved the school's expansion, while requiring school officials and residents to develop a workable traffic plan.

Councilwoman Wendy Greuel Wendy Greuel is President Pro Tempore of the Los Angeles City Council representing the 2nd District. Greuel was elected in 2002 to fill the remainder of the term of Councilman Joel Wachs. She was elected in her own right in 2003 and reelected in 2007.  pitched the compromise as a way to allow the school to expand while addressing residents' concerns.
