The awards are sponsored by the Fashion Association, a nonprofit association representing more than 250 manufacturers, designers, retailers, fabric and fiber producers, and the J.C. Penney Co. Presenters included leading fashion designers Donna Karan, Mary McFadden, Nicole Miller, Cynthia Rowley, Barry Bricken and Byron Lars.

A member of the Daily News' features staff since 1990, De Witt writes weekly fashion and style features, as well as the Hot Tips and Mall Patrol columns. She is a frequent guest on local news stations and on ``Extra,'' an entertainment news program on NBC NBC

Before joining the Daily News, De Witt was a free-lance writer for the Seattle Times, where she received the Washington Press Association's first place award for fashion reporting in 1989. Before that, she was fashion editor for the Daily Breeze in Torrance.

De Witt is a graduate of California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , and is a member of the advisory board for CSUN's fashion department.
