LONG BEACH - Long Beach Poly High has competed against a number of great schools in its storied football history.

However, the Jackrabbits likely never have encountered a team as focused, fundamentally sound or with as much team speed as De La Salle De La Salle is the name of several educational institutions affiliated with the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the Lasallian Brothers, a Roman Catholic religious teaching order founded by French priest Saint Jean-Baptiste de la Salle:
 of Concord, which handed Poly its first loss since the 1998 season, 29-15, in front of a sold-out crowd of 17,321 Saturday night at Veterans Stadium.

De La Salle (4-0) extended its national-record win streak to 117 games. It was arguably ar·gu·a·ble

``We started working for this game against Poly in January,'' De La Salle coach Bob Ladouceur Bob Ladouceur is an American football coach. He began coaching the De La Salle High School in Concord, California in 1979, when he was twenty-five years old. He took over a team that had never enjoyed a winning season since the school's founding in 1965 and turned it into a  said. ``We knew what kind of game we were going to get into.  Hershel Dennis Hershel Dennis (born July 12, 1984) is an college football running back, currently a student athlete at the University of Southern California. His nickname since childhood is "Patch".  led Poly with 160 rushing yards on 20 carries, and De La Salle junior running back Maurice Drew accounted for all four of his team's touchdowns, carrying eight times for 84 yards and catching three passes for 79 yards.

After trailing 21-15 at halftime, Poly (3-1) dominated the third quarter, controlling the ball for 10 minutes, 40 seconds, and keeping De La Salle's offense from picking up a first down during the 12-minute span.

However, the Jackrabbits failed to pick up any points in the quarter.

Their best drive stalled at the Spartans 30, after Poly quarterback Brandon Brooks Brandon Brooks (17 November 1973, Nashville, Tennessee, USA) is an American sitcom actor. He has starred in a number of Peter Engel productions such as USA High and the role of the stereotypical surfer Murray Updyke in Malibu CA. He is of part English, Irish and part Cherokee descent.  fumbled a snap.
