Welterweight champion Oscar De La Hoya Oscar de la Hoya (IPA pronunciation: [ˈɑs.kɛɹ dɛ.lɑ.ˈhɔɪ.jɑ][1]) (born February 4, 1973) — nicknamed the Golden Boy  has split with trainer Emanuel Steward Emanuel Steward (born July 7, 1944 in Bottom Creek, West Virginia) is a boxing trainer, commentator and inductee of the International Boxing Hall Of Fame. Biography
Steward was born in West Virginia, and by the age of 12, he had moved with his mother to Detroit, Michigan.

De La Hoya announced the split with Steward in a news release and did not comment further. Steward, though, said De La Hoya was apparently unhappy with the training methods for his June win over David Kamau and his Sept. 13 win over Camacho. De La Hoya stopped Kamau in the second round and battered Camacho for 12 rounds.

``He was not sparring over 100 rounds for a fight which his father and Alcazar believe he should,'' said Steward, who also trains WBC heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis.
