DDT Cleanup Plan Announced.


The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), independent agency of the U.S. government, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and  unveiled plans for an unprecedented experiment this summer covering 180 acres of ocean floor off Palos Verdes Palos Verdes is often used to refer to a group of coastal cities on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in the Los Angeles/South Bay area of California. First introduced during the 1940s, it killed insects that spread disease and feed on crops. .

 is also proposing to spend $22 million to enforce a no-fishing zone around the deposit.

For 25 years, through 1971, chemical manufacturer Montrose Corp. dumped residue into the Los Angeles County sewer system, allowing 110 tons of DDT to spread across 17 square miles of the ocean floor.
