DDC-I Announces Royalty Free Real-Time Kernel for Safety-Critical Applications.


New lightweight kernel with POSIX interfaces features compact, real-time TCP/IP stack and file system; Certifiable to DO-178B Level A

PHOENIX -- DDC-I, a leading supplier of software products and professional services for mission- and safety-critical applications, today announced the availability of HeartOS[TM], a new lightweight real-time operating system with POSIX Profile 51 interfaces for mission-critical and safety-critical applications. Currently undergoing certification to DO-178B Level A, HeartOS features a compact, lightweight deterministic TCP/IP stack and journaling file system.

"HeartOS provides a compact, lightweight complement to our time and space partitioned Deos[TM] embedded OS that makes it ideal for small to medium sized safety critical applications," said Greg Rose, vice president of marketing at DDC-I. "HeartOS is compact, certifiable to the most stringent FAA software standards, and is designed utilizing POSIX profile 51 interfaces for maximum application portability. It also provides bounded networking support, a journaling file system, and complete development tool support."

HeartOS is a lightweight deterministic kernel optimized for small- to medium-sized mission- and safety-critical applications with stringent space and processing requirements. Featuring POSIX profile 51 interfaces with additional profile 52 features (i.e., file system), the HeartOS kernel provides POSIX scheduling, threads, semaphores, mutexes, barriers, condition variables, message queues, clocks and timers. HeartOS is highly scalable and configurable, making it ideal for 8-, 16- and 32-bit microprocessors.

HeartOS features a compact, portable TCP/IP stack with a standard BSD sockets network interface. Derived from the open source Light Weight TCP/IP (lwIP) stack, the stack provides bounded real-time response for all algorithms. It is also highly scalable, supporting selective compilation for protocol options such as ARP, UDP, TCP, and ICMP.

Development support for HeartOS includes DDC-I's Eclipse-based, mixed language OpenArbor[TM] IDE, which features C and C++ optimizing compilers, a color-coded source editor, project management support, automated build/make utilities, and a mixed-language, multi-window, symbolic debugger. The debugger recognizes C and C++ expressions and can view objects, expressions, call chains, execution traces, interspersed machine code, machine registers, and program stacks. The debugger is non intrusive, can debug at the source or machine level, and can be enabled without changing the generated code.
