DCA APPROVES $500,000 GRANT FOR INDIANA ENTERPRISE ZONE

HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Gov. Robert P. Casey today announced a $500,000 competitive grant to provide machinery and equipment to expand a window manufacturing business in the Indiana County Enterprise Zone in Indiana and White Twp.
"Since it was designated as an enterprise zone in July 1993, Indiana County has benefitted from more than $660,000 in state enterprise zone grants," Casey said.
The Enterprise Zone will use the grant to provide a loan to Gorell Enterprises Inc., for the purchase of machinery and equipment to expand the company's vinyl and aluminum custom replacement window facility.
Nearly $9.5 million in public and private funding sources will be invested in the project, which is expected to create 230 jobs. The state Department of Commerce has provided the company with nearly $2.3 million from its Economic Development Partnership, Machinery and Equipment Loan Fund and Pennsylvania Capital Loan Fund. The U.S. Department of Commerce has provided a grant of $1.1 million.
Since 1987, the Enterprise Zone Program has made more than $46.5 million available to help stimulate economic development activities in 50 designated enterprise zones statewide. The grants have leveraged more than $600 million in private investment and are credited with establishing or expanding more than 1,650 businesses across the commonwealth.
Enterprise Zone grants are made available through the Bureau of Community Planning in the state Department of Community Affairs.
