DBxtra 6.0: enhanced data reporting at your fingertips.Quanticus has announced the release of version 6.0 of DBxtra, a stand alone query and reporting tool for the Windows platforms. Designed with an ordinary user in mind, this application enables you to connect to various data sources, create ad hoc queries and reports, leaving the complexity behind the scene. While delivering all much requested features, the newest version gives you an extra ability to design a data report and publish it to an Intranet or Internet server as an ASP page. Similar to other DBxtra operations, ASP design and publication can be done with a point-and-click simplicity. "Creating an ASP report in DBxtra is simple and doesn't require any knowledge of ASP, HTML or programming," says Rudolf F. Vanek, executive director of Quanticus S.A. de C.V. "Instead of writing code you can use the visual DBxtra ASP Designer to specify the desired format and create an ASP page. Once the page is ready, the program will help you to publish it online. End users can view the page from any computer either with the DBxtra software or from any Internet browser. Since the page is live connected to the data, the online report remains always up-to-date. We believe DBxtra--ASP pages will be of great help for executives and personnel who need access to live data 1. live data - Data that is written to be interpreted and takes over program flow when triggered by some un-obvious operation, such as viewing it. One use of such hacks is to break security. For example, some smart terminals have commands that allow one to download strings to program keys; this can be used to write live data that, when listed to the terminal, infects it with a security-breaking virus that is triggered the next time a hapless user strikes that key. reports from any location and any computer." Today the new feature is available for free for all owners of DBxtra Professional edition. However the company is planning to distribute it as an add-on option to DBxtra Professional for an extra cost.
