DBA FEATURE REDUCES CPU USAGE AND ELAPSED OPERATING TIME.

SoftBase Systems Inc., Asheville, N.C., a developer of software tools for DB2 mainframes, has announced the patent pending status of its Variable Commit Frequency technology a new feature in the company's oldest and most established software package Database Attach (DBA). In recent tests, the new Variable Commit Frequency feature was responsible for substantial reductions in both CPU CPU

"We're very pleased to bring this type of innovation to the mainframe marketplace, said Gary Blair Gary Blair is the head coach of the Texas A&M University women's basketball team. In his 21 years as a head coach, Blair has only suffered one losing season,[] and has reached postseason play 17 times, including 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Final Four , president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. It's the culmination of a lot of hard work by our development team and we're excited to see how this new item will help our customers.

The Variable Commit Frequency function within Database Attach allows the COMMIT interval the part of the operation that automatically saves the results of a programming unit of work to be dynamically modified within certain operations in DB2 batch runs. This can lead to greater efficiency during batch processing (1) Performing a particular operation automatically on a group of files all at once rather than manually opening, editing and saving one file at a time. For example, graphics software that converts a selection of images from one format to another would be a batch processing utility. . In recent internal tests at SoftBase, DBA 4.2 yielded as much as a 61% savings in CPU usage.

In another test by a SoftBase Systems client, DBA 4.2 showed a 92% reduction in elapsed time e·lapsed time

As Blair explained, For companies struggling to make a batch window The time available for an intensive batch processing operation such as a disk backup.  which is a small and well-defined time each day when organizations can update their DB2 mainframes even modest gains in either CPU usage or reductions in clock time can be a lifesaver.
